eReserve Features
The core of the eReserve system consists of two components, eReserve and RapidPrint™, that work together giving a flexible document delivery system across campuses, schools, and faculties. Using RapidPrint™, students can easily print off the documents they need, when they need them, saving money and reducing waste from overprinting. RapidPrint™ can also be easily integrated into existing payment systems used in your institution.Through eReserve you can easily manage the documents that go into both systems, and through an intuitive web interface, ensure copyright compliance, retrieve detailed reports and easily manage the online delivery of documents and readings to staff and students alike.
Copyright complianceUsing eReserve, you can easily manage documents through an intuitive web interface, ensure copyright compliance, and retrieve detailed reports—thereby assuring your full copyright compliance by your institution. eReserve has procedures built in to ensure copyright audit compliance from the moment materials are entered into it. In case of an ISBN/ISSN conflict, conflicting resources are flagged so that administrators may choose the resource/s they would like to make active. Each time a resource is viewed the correct copyright notice is displayed, and even if a student bookmarks the resource it is redisplayed with a link to item. Copyright Auditor Reports—for the easy management of document reports and compliance during copyright audit periods are also possible.
Extensive reportsIn addition to copyright reports, eReserve enables administrators to review and specify document availability over time—for example semester-specific—or reconfigure settings to suit copyright or other needs. Reports detail the most/least viewed, printed, and accessed materials to enable more efficient management of resources and to improve effectiveness of learning strategies.
The reports also show authorised administrators the total savings resulting from the use of eReserve, and assist with internal audit and review processes. Custom reports can easily be added as required.
Easy to manageRapidPrint™
has a workflow process for document and material submission that enables academic or other staff to submit materials, but with
materials only being made active after sign-off from an authorised administrator.
- are notified of incoming materials; by approving the submitted resource they automatically create items in eReserve (and RapidPrint™)
- can request modifications to—and reject—submissions.
- can manage approved materials—pending, active, and expired documents; automation can be set for availability as needed or specified
- can enter an item and right away have it appear in the system
- can search items based on an input field—to show all items with that characteristic.
Depending on how your institution prefers to do things, eReserve can integrate with secure payment systems, cash-based POS systems, and swipe-card facilities. Operators can release a print job if taking payment manually, or the system can integrate with existing card services in use at your institution to ensure ease of use, minimal change and disruption, and the automatic release of jobs once payment is received—without any human operator involvement.
System flexibilityeReserve is able to run across a wide variety of platforms, operating systems, network configurations and
even campuses. In order to run the eReserve, you will need the following configuration:
- a Web server with PHP4 or PHP5 installed
- Zend Optimiser (http://www.zend.com) installed on the hosting web server(s)
- a database server running Oracle or MySQL.
- GhostScript for counting pages in submitted PDF files.
When eReserve is set up together with RapidPrint™, these technolgies can be used in
conjuction to add distributed printing facilities to eReserve materials.
RapidPrint™ is a software system that enables rapid access to study program materials for immediate
point-of-sale printing and collection, or for consecutive online distribution of the same materials to students.
While RapidPrint™ allows selection and compilation of materials into one print job for immediate printing, eReserve allows students themselves to view and download the actual PDF file.
The system is modular in nature and enables flexible implementation to suit various technical or administrative requirements that your institution may have.
Immediate cost savingsImplementation of an eReserve system immediately starts saving your institution money and resources. Students print only the resources and materials that they want, when they want, thus preventing the excessive printing of redundant or unwanted materials. The costs of printing, shipping, returning unwanted copies, and poor copyright compliance are all avoided when using eReserve.
All study materials, assets, and resources inserted into the eReserve system are easily managed and reviewed by staff to ensure that latest and most up-to-date or copyright-compliant materials are available to students.
